With silly and fun personalities, Evan and Sarah allowed me to capture their engagement photos in the beautiful National Park: Yosemite. Most of the things we did during the shoot were me allowing them to be themselves while giving minimal direction. It was important to keep that genuine part of their relationship vivid in their photos. The goal is not to hide their personalities to get out of them what I want but to let Evan and Sarah be who they are as a couple.
If I could name a fashion piece that would describe Evan and Sarah as a couple, it would be flannels. For as long as I have known Sarah, she has always worn flannels. To me, I look at flannels that describe cozy fall nights in the woods roasting smores with your family and friends. Both Evan and Sarah have a love for nature and outdoor sports (ie: soccer), so when they asked me for a couple of location suggestions for their shoot, I immediately drew inspiration from their love for flannels and the outdoors. During the shoot, I sadly kept saying "basketball" instead of "soccer." To be honest, I have no idea why? But it kept happening several times during the shoot!!
One of the things that were unique to the both of them was the nerdiness. Star Wars: light and dark side. During their shoot, they wanted to have a "lightsaber fight" in the woods almost recreating Star Wars Episode VII's epic battle scene between Rey and Kylo. Literally, their lightsabers lite up!! So naturally, I wanted to get another shot when we got home from Yosemite to get an epic night shot! Even though we were pretty tired, I was so grateful to Evan and Sarah for entrusting me with my vision!
This shoot was so much fun and cannot wait until I get to shoot these two lovebirds' wedding in June! If you want to see the full engagement shoot, make sure to click the link below.
