Murphy Family | Portrait Teaser | Turlock, CA

Having holiday leave, Shane came home to the Central Valley of California to spend time with his family. As soon as the rest of the family got wind of his homecoming, the sister of her older brother, Britani, messaged me asking if I would be willing to capture their family photos. I have not seen or talked with Britani or Shane since we attended high school almost 4 years ago!

Shane graduated in 2015 and decided to join the Air Force. He currently resides in Florida and will eventually be moving to Georgia to potentially finish his training. Britani graduated in 2016 from the same high school Shane and I went to and had the college experience for a while before becoming a caretaker.

Probably one of my favorite moments during any family session is when I get to have mom and dad take some time together to get some special shots of just them. Before this shot, I had Britani and her dad slow dance in practicing for their one-day father-daughter dance. Dad liked it a lot, so I had him dance with his wife also.

Usually, I make a pose an activity or start off with posing them and then asking questions to make them comfortable and naturally give their expression for the camera. Here, I decided to take a wider view to capture the story from another angle. Because he was already familiar with what he was doing, I directed them from afar giving very subtle hints as to what I would like them to do. This not only gives them space and be themselves but the goal for me to be forgotten about.

After taking this shot, I walked over to join them before moving to another location and mom said that dad told her that he wanted to recreate their first dance. There's another goal! To have my clients more in love or united with one another than when they first met with me.
